Saturday 24th May

After flying from Belfast City airport to Glasgow International airport we were taken by pre-arranged minibus to the Buchanan Arms Hotel at Drymen, the start of the Rob Roy Way and also coincidentally the end of the first stage of the West Highland Way. We wandered round Drymen and called at the Cruachan Inn for lunch. We then split up for the afternoon, some using the pool and spa facilities at the hotel before our evening meal at the hotel and meeting up with Peter who had travelled independently from the northeast.

Memories of West Highland Way for some of us
Helen was quite shy(for first 5 minutes)
View down to lower Loch Lomond and Conic Hill
Buchanan Arms Hotel, our first overnight

SUNDAY 26th MAY(Drymen to Aberfoyle, 11 miles +227m ascent)

Today's walk was a gentle introduction through Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, alongside the Loch Katrine Aqueduct supplying fresh water to Glasgow and passing Kirkton Church with its cast iron coffins(protection against graverobbers such as Burke and Hare). We would finish in Aberfoyle at the Scottish Wool Centre with a chance to watch a sheepdog demonstration.

A sports car rally shares our road initially
Sad what you find dumped at the roadside
An airshaft for the underground water pipeline
The Corrie Aqueduct where the pipe is above ground
The cast iron coffins or mortsafes at Kirkton church
Hard keeping pace with Lorraine and Helen
Dinner at the Forth Inn
Followed by a Table Quiz with some German walkers
