BEN CROM 8 SEPTEMBER 2018
Saturday's walk took us along the Ott Track to the saddle between Slieve Loughshannagh and Carn and then on to the path leading to Slieve Bearnagh. From there, we followed the path contouring around Bearnagh before crossing over to Ben Crom via a testing mix of bog and heather. The weather remained dry and cloud cover was high enough to give us some splendid views from Ben Crom. The group were thankful for having consumed lunch on Ben Crom as lots of energy was required to get us across more bog and heather to Doan. During the crossing to Doan, Colin was able not only to keep us going in the right direction but also to assure a group of young Duke of Edinburgh adventurers that they too were on the right course! We descended Doan towards Lough Shannagh and picked up a well defined path which took us back to the saddle between Slieve Loughshannagh and Carn. From the saddle we followed the Ott Track back to the car park at the foot of Butter Mountain. Our thanks to Colin for leading a fine walk.
