SPEYSIDE WAY 1-9 SEPTEMBER 2011
Thursday 1st September
Today we had an early start to catch the 0715 P&O ferry from Larne to Troon and then 175 miles to Aviemore to park my car for the week. After a late lunch at the Cairngorm Hotel(and a lasting impression on the young barman) we travelled by trains and bus to Buckie for the first of many friendly Scottish welcomes during our trip.
Friday 2nd September
Our first day's walk was a gentle warmup, 10 miles and 65 metres of ascent from Buckie along the coast to Spey Bay and then inland to Fochabers. Lunch was at the Wildlife Centre at Tugnet and we then followed the Spey River to Fochabers, visiting Baxters Highland Village before staying the night at the Red Lion Inn(some of us almost spent the night in a church when we were locked in). Dinner was enjoyed at the Grant Arms Hotel.

The coast is prone to flooding

This church had an odd recruitment drive, lock in visitors!
