RAMBLERS LANZAROTE HOLIDAY 12 to 19 MARCH 2019
For this year’s early Spring holiday 13 club members made their way to Puerto del Carmen on the enigmatic island of Lanzarote in the Spanish Canaries. Of volcanic origin most of the island takes on the appearance of a “moonscape” with little or no natural vegetation in sight. Walking in mainly lava fields was therefore a completely new experience for the club. The weather for the entire holiday was more or less perfect, the temperatures during the days were in the upper twenties and we only saw a cloud in the sky on the day we were leaving for home.
Day one was a pleasant acclimatisation walk from the hotel (Relaxia Olivina) to the small village of Calero. Three members decided to explore the nearby high mountains before returning by bus, whilst the rest of the group took a local coast hugging ferry back to base.
